Lloyd A. Cosby, Jr., was born and raised in the City of Richmond. He attended the Richmond Public Schools and graduated from Armstrong High School in 1966. That fall he went to work for the United States Postal Service and has 40 years of service.

He served in the U. S. Army and spent a year in Vietnam, where he was given the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal and the Presidents Medal.

A hunger to “study to show himself approved” led to his going to J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College, Virginia Commonwealth University and finally gaining a Masters of Divinity from the Samuel De Witt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. His religious education also included gaining three certificates from the Evans-Smith Leadership Institute at Virginia Union University.

Rev. Cosby has been married for more than 30 years to Maria M. Cosby and is the proud father of three daughters, Felicia, Chelsea, and Chynna and one grandchild, Darius. Maria has been very active in assisting the Reverend in his ministerial pursuits and is a career employee of the United States Postal Service. Felicia is the director of a program for at risk youths. Chelsea is a Doctor at The University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md. Chynna works as a publication assistant at the University of Virginia Press.

Reverend Cosby loves to study the Bible and this was truly manifested when he became an adult Sunday School teacher many years ago at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Powahatan, Virginia. Mt. Zion ordained Reverend Cosby as a Deacon and Mrs. Cosby was consecrated as a Deaconess in 1994.

He was called into the ministry and licensed to proclaim the Gospel in 1999 and ordained in 2000, when he was called to pastor the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. He pastored the Mount Nebo Baptist Church for the last 7 years.

Rev. Cosby was installed at the Zion Union Baptist Church in October of 2007.
Reverend Cosby thanks God everyday for the opportunity to proclaim what the Lord has done.
